The Niger State Government has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a work free day across the State to commemorate the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448 After Hijrah (AH).
The declaration which was approved by Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, is to enable Muslims and other residents of the State to reflect on the spiritual significance of the Hijrah the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) from Makkah to Madinah, an event that marked a defining moment in the history of Islam.
In a statement issued to Newsmen in Minna by Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman described the Hijrah as a timeless symbol of sacrifice, perseverance, faith, discipline, resilience and unwavering commitment to the cause of righteousness.
According to him, the lessons embedded in the historic migration remain relevant to contemporary society and should serve as a source of inspiration for citizens in their individual and collective pursuits.
Alhaji Abubakar Usman called on residents of the State to utilize the occasion to offer prayers for enduring peace, security, unity and prosperity in Niger State and Nigeria as a whole while urging religious leaders to use the period to promote values that strengthen social harmony, including patriotism, tolerance, moral uprightness and peaceful coexistence.
The SSG reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to the successful implementation of the New Niger Agenda, noting that the Government will continue to remain focused on transformative policies and programmes designed to improve the welfare of citizens.
While congratulating the Muslim Ummah and residents of the state on the commencement of the year 1448 AH, Alhaji Usman prayed for Allah continued guidance, protection and blessings upon the people of Niger State and Nigeria.
