A fresh controversy has erupted over the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, after Senator Suleiman Kawu accused the Senate of blocking an investigation into how the agency secured over ₦1.3 billion in the 2026 budget.
Speaking after plenary in Abuja on Wednesday, Kawu alleged that the agency was inserted into the national budget without undergoing the mandatory budget defence before the relevant Senate committee.
He said Nigerians deserve to know who approved the allocation, whether any funds have been released, and who controls the agency’s accounts.However, Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, ruled against a Senate probe.
He said President Bola Tinubu had already directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to investigate the matter.Kawu insisted that the National Assembly also has a constitutional responsibility to investigate its own budget process.
“History will judge us if lawmakers fail to ensure accountability,” he warned.
The development has raised fresh questions about budget transparency and legislative oversight ahead of the implementation of the 2026 appropriation.
