The Full Council Meeting of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) was held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, with members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), State Chapter Chairmen and Secretaries in attendance.After extensive deliberations on matters affecting the Association, the Council resolved as follows:
1- One Month Extension ApprovalFull Council unanimously approved an appeal for a one-month extension for the hosting of SWAN Triennial Delegates Congress, with the timeline fixed for not earlier than July and not later than August 2026.
2- Adoption of SWANECOFull Council adopted the composition of the SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO) for the conduct of the 2026 National Elections.
3- Inauguration of 2026 SWANECOThe SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, officially inaugurated the seven-member committee with the mandate to conduct a credible, transparent, free, and fair election in line with the statutes and democratic principles of the Association.
4- Composition of the 2026 SWANECOThe committee members are:
• Hembadoon Orsar – Chairman • Bisi Ogunleye – Member • Jacob Onjewu Dickson – Secretary • Bala Bawaji – Member • Chimezie Anaso – Member • Emmanuel Akpan – Member • Bushrat Yusuf – Member
5- Commitment to Credible ElectionsSpeaking on behalf of the committee, the Chairman of SWANECO, Hembadoon Orsar, appreciated the confidence reposed in the committee by the President and NEC, assuring members of the committee’s commitment to delivering an election process that will uphold the integrity and standard of SWAN.
6. Appreciation to MembersFull Council commended members for their continued dedication, unity, and commitment to the ideals and growth of the Association.
