The Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, has obtained approval for a solar-powered electrification project for Potiskum Specialist Hospital from the National Energy Commission.
According to Hon. Muktari, the approval came after the hospital management raised concerns over frequent power cuts that were disrupting healthcare services.
He recalled that the Yobe State Government had earlier provided the hospital with two 5,000 KVA MARAFCO generators as an immediate fix. He added that the council had to pursue a longer-term and more sustainable energy solution.
The chairman said the push yielded results with the approval of the solar project, which is billed to begin soon.
He also thanked Potiskum indigenes working at the National Energy Commission for their role in facilitating the approval.Hon.
Muktari noted that the solar system will supply steady electricity to key hospital departments such as the operating theatre, laboratory, emergency unit, maternity ward and diagnostic centre.
This, he said, will boost service delivery and cut down running costs.In a statement by his Special Assistant on Information and Communication, Malam Ibrahim M. Nura, the council said the project will strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Potiskum and support the Yobe State Government’s health sector investments through the use of sustainable renewable energy.
