Residents of Gano community in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, Kano State, have commended Natem Quarry Company for commencing construction of a one-kilometre drainage channel at Guntal settlement to address perennial flooding.
The gesture is part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility aimed at strengthening community relations and tackling critical environmental challenges in its host community.
A representative of the company at the project site said the drainage project was a pressing need that required urgent intervention. He noted that the company is committed to forging a good relationship with the host community through impactful projects.
“The company observed that such a project is a critical issue that needs urgent attention,” the representative said during an inspection of the site.The drainage, estimated to cost several million naira, is expected to be completed within a few weeks.
It is designed to channel storm water and reduce flood damage during the rainy season.
Before the intervention, flood waters regularly washed away farmlands in Guntal and caused serious damage to a cemetery located nearby. Residents said the situation had threatened both livelihoods and communal heritage.
Community members expressed gratitude to Natem Quarry Company for the timely intervention. They said the project will bring relief and protect properties during heavy rains.This is not the company’s first intervention in the area. Since its arrival nearly a year ago, the firm has spent millions of naira on capital projects in Gano and environs.
The projects include provision of portable water supply to Fallau Primary School, creation of job opportunities for youths, and other social empowerment programmes for host communities.
