Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has died in bandits’ captivity, the Katsina State Government announced today June 13, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the retired general died of complications from diabetes and hypertension while being held captive.
The statement said efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his release were unsuccessful. It described his abduction and death as “a monumental loss” to Katsina State and the country.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, in a reaction, extended condolences to the family and called the incident “a dark moment” that underscores the need for intensified action against criminal groups.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to work with the Federal Government and security forces to bring those responsible to justice and said its resolve to eliminate banditry remains unshaken.
