The House of Representatives has urged the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the North East Development Commission, NEDC, to urgently send relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
This formed part of the resolutions adopted during plenary on a motion moved by the member representing Ningi-Warji Federal Constituency, Alhaji Adamu Hashimu Ranga.
Presenting the motion, Alhaji Ranga told the House that the rainstorm destroyed 4,332 households across Katanga, Ranga, Tiyin, Gbanga, Haya Wando, Baima and Dallaji communities. He said the disaster also claimed one life and properties worth millions of naira.
According to him, many houses had their roofs blown off while electricity and other basic services were disrupted. He appealed for immediate intervention from relevant authorities on humanitarian grounds.
The House observed a one-minute silence in honour of the deceased. It thereafter referred the matter to its Committees on NEMA and the North East Development Commission for compliance and to report back to the Green Chamber for further action.
