The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Jigawa State Council, will formally inaugurate the newly created Jigawa Online Media Chapel on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
The event is scheduled for 2:00 PM at the NUJ Press Centre, Dutse, according to an invitation signed by Acting Secretary Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo.
The inauguration follows approval from the NUJ National Secretariat. The council said it marks a major step toward strengthening digital journalism practice in the state.
NUJ explained that the formation of online media chapels is backed by the amended Article 5 of the union’s constitution. The amendment was ratified at a Special Delegates Conference in Kano in 2022, which officially integrated digital journalism into the union’s structure.
The constitutional update now allows qualified online journalists to form independent chapels within state councils nationwide.
Jigawa NUJ called on all members of the Online Media Chapel to attend the ceremony, describing it as a celebration of a new chapter for media practice in the state.
The council also thanked members for their continued support as the union expands to accommodate the growing digital media space.
