The management of Federal University Dutse (FUD) has paid a courtesy visit to the new Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, to discuss stronger ties on security and crime prevention.
Led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, the delegation visited the Police Command Headquarters in Dutse on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The purpose of the visit was to welcome the CP and congratulate him on his new posting.
During the meeting, Prof. Gumel expressed confidence in CP Murtala’s capacity and experience.
He called for the continued partnership between the university and the police, especially in intelligence sharing, crime prevention, and safeguarding lives and property.
The VC also raised concerns about the recent appearance of cultism and other forms of misconduct among students. He described it as a new challenge for the institution that needs urgent and joint action before it spreads.
He further stressed the need for improved security around the university. According to him, a peaceful and safe campus is necessary for effective teaching, learning, research, and the overall growth of students.
In his reply, CP Murtala appreciated the management for the visit and the warm reception he has received since arriving in the state.
The Commissioner said the Command prioritizes the safety of schools and will maintain close collaboration with the university.He noted the reports of cult-related activities and other emerging threats on campus.
CP Murtala said the police would use preventive measures, intelligence-driven policing, and community engagement to tackle the issues. He urged FUD authorities to improve internal systems for detecting and reporting suspicious activities early.
“Security is a collective duty,” CP Murtala stated. “It requires teamwork between the police, university management, students, parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Prompt sharing of credible information will help us respond quickly to any threat.”
The CP also emphasized discipline, good morals, and academic excellence, saying institutions should focus on learning and character building, not criminality.
He pledged that the Command would sustain regular meetings with FUD and boost security around the university through patrols, increased police presence, and intelligence operations.
CP Murtala reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring peace in Jigawa State and asked for FUD’s continued cooperation to achieve the shared goal of crime prevention and public safety.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to strengthen their partnership and keep FUD a safe and enabling environment for teaching, learning, and research.
