Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on June 12, 2026, by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje. The new emir replaces the late Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam, who died recently in Egypt after a protracted illness and was buried Thursday in Damaturu.
Until his appointment, Ibn Mahmud served as Turakin Ngazargamu for 16 years. He is a former member of the Yobe State House of Assembly and also served as a member of the State Executive Council and Commissioner for Livestock Development.
Governor Buni congratulated the new emir and the Ngazargamu Emirate, urging him to use his experience to promote unity, peace, coexistence, and economic growth within the emirate, the state, and Nigeria.
He also called on residents to support the new emir to carry out his duties diligently for the benefit of the people and the prosperity of the emirate.
