The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme has paid out ₦1,389,957,763.37 as retirement and death benefits to retirees and dependents of deceased staff and pensioners.
The Scheme said the payment reflects the state government’s commitment to the welfare of workers and their families.
According to the Scheme, 90 families of workers who died in active service will share ₦261 million in death benefits to help support them.
Another 17 families of late pensioners are also set to receive ₦27 million as gratuity payments.
The Scheme noted that it had last week disbursed about ₦1.111 billion to 453 retirees as retirement benefits. With the latest payment, the total amount disbursed from last week to date now stands at ₦1,389,957,763.37.
Management of the Scheme urged guardians of orphaned beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously for the children’s welfare, education, and future, stressing that they will be accountable before Allah for how the money is spent.
It added that the payments align with Governor Umar Namadi’s welfare policies, aimed at improving living standards in Jigawa through timely settlement of pension and gratuity obligations.
