The National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, on Saturday led a high-level delegation on a condolence visit to the National Secretary of the Association, Comrade Wasila Ibrahim Ladan, and the Jigawa State Chairperson, Comrade Hauwa Ibrahim Ladan, over the passing of their beloved mother.
The late matriarch died last Wednesday in Kuntau, Kano State, after a brief illness. Her death has thrown the two top NAWOJ officials and their extended family into mourning.
The condolence visit took place at the family residence in Kuntau and was attended by key leaders of NAWOJ from across the country. The visit was described as a show of solidarity and sisterhood within the Association.
Comrade Aisha Ibrahim was accompanied by Comrade Daharatu A. Aliyu, Zonal Secretary, Zone A, and Comrade Bahijja Kabara, Chairperson, NAWOJ Kano State Chapter. Their presence underscored the importance the national leadership attaches to unity in moments of grief.
Also on the delegation were Comrade Sahura Maidoki, Chairperson, NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter, and Comrade Nafisa Hassan, Treasurer, NAWOJ Jigawa State Chapter. The Jigawa leadership was fully represented to support its chairperson during the difficult period.
Comrade Sadiya I. Musa, Financial Secretary, NAWOJ Jigawa State Chapter, and Comrade Sarah Ogodo, SSA on Special Duties and Projects to the National Chairperson, also joined the visit. The delegation offered prayers and words of comfort to the bereaved family.
Speaking during the visit, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim described the late woman as a virtuous and God-fearing mother whose life was anchored on faith, discipline and service to humanity. She noted that the deceased lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
The NAWOJ National Chairperson said the prayers, sacrifices and unwavering support of the late mother contributed immensely to the success and growth of her daughters, especially Comrades Wasila and Hauwa, who are both serving the Association in national capacities.
She prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant her Aljannah Firdaus. She also asked Allah to grant the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
“Our mother was a pillar. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled in her children. We pray that Allah comforts you and rewards her with the highest place in Jannah,” Comrade Aisha Ibrahim said.
The delegation also commiserated with the entire Ladan family, relatives, friends and well-wishers. They urged them to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived a fulfilled life and left behind children who are making positive impacts in society.
In their response, the bereaved family thanked the NAWOJ leadership for the visit and for identifying with them in their moment of grief. They described the gesture as a demonstration of the bond that exists among women journalists across the country.
The visit ended with prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased and for peace to reign in the family. NAWOJ leadership reaffirmed its commitment to supporting members in times of joy and sorrow.
