The Jigawa State chapter of the Human Rights Network has honoured Governor Umar A. Namadi with an award of recognition for his outstanding contributions to peacebuilding and good governance in the state.
The delegation, led by the State Coordinator, Comrade Yakubu Abbas, presented the award during a courtesy visit to the Governor in his office in Dutse on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Abbas described Governor Namadi as a leader committed to sustaining peace, unity, and the protection of human dignity across Jigawa State.
He said the award was in appreciation of the Governor’s consistent efforts in creating an enabling environment where citizens can live peacefully and without fear.
According to him, the Human Rights Network is a United States-registered association focused on the fight against child abuse, gender-based violence, and other violations of fundamental human rights.
“The Network was established to defend the rights and dignity of the common man, and to ensure that vulnerable groups are protected under the law,” Abbas explained.
He further stated that Governor Namadi’s administration has demonstrated political will and commitment to upholding justice, fairness, and peaceful coexistence in Jigawa.
In view of this, the Coordinator announced that the Network had formally conferred on Governor Namadi the title of “Peace Ambassador” in recognition of his leadership in maintaining Jigawa’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.
Comrade Abbas also used the opportunity to present some requests to the state government.
He appealed for mobility support and a permanent office accommodation for the Network, noting that the organization is currently operating from a temporary office.Responding, Governor Umar Namadi expressed gratitude to the Human Rights Network for the visit and the honour bestowed on him.
He said the recognition would further spur his administration to remain focused on policies that promote peace, security, and the welfare of the people.
“We appreciate the work you are doing to protect the rights of citizens, especially children and vulnerable persons. Government is fully in support of your activities,” the Governor stated.
Governor Namadi assured the delegation that his administration would look into their requests. “As a government, we will do the needful. Your efforts in promoting peace and human rights align with our vision of making Jigawa a model of peaceful coexistence,” he added.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with civil society organizations to strengthen governance and safeguard the rights of all residents in the state.
