In a bid to curb flooding in riverine communities, the Jigawa State Government has commenced the construction of river embankments along the Hadejia River axis to protect residents in the area.
The Special Adviser to the Governor Umar Namadi on Community inclusion and flood Mitigation, Honourable Hamza Muhammad Hadejia, disclosed this to newsmen during the flag-off of the exercise.
He stated that the effort is part of the government’s promise and commitment to safeguard communities and farmlands along the river.
Hamza further noted that the embankment project would be expanded to parts of Kirikasamma, Auyo, and Guri if feasible.
The Councillor representing Arki ward, Imam Uba, confirmed that the communities where the embankment has been constructed include Arki, Agin, Sorakin, Matsa, and Girdo village.
In a related development, a renowned philanthropist, Mallam Yusuf Mai-tafada, has taken the responsibility of constructing over one kilometre of embankment along the Hadejia River axis in Tashena Village, Malam Madori Local Government Area.
The community ward head, Bulama Yunusah, commended the philanthropist for the initiative and pray for him May Almighty Allah to double his wealth.
In interviews, residents of the benefiting areas expressed their gratitude to the Jigawa State Government for considering them at the right time to protect their communities and farmlands from flood disasters.
