The English and Hausa Department of the NCE Sandwich Programme, Jahun Study Centre, on Saturday organized the second edition of its Hausa Traditional Occupational Craft Exhibition under Hausa Course 213, titled “Introduction to Hausa Occupational Craft.” The exhibition was held under the theme “Ga Fili Ga Mai Doki.
“The event featured practical demonstrations of two traditional Hausa occupations—barbing and hunting—with participants showcasing the skills and techniques inherited from their forefathers.In his welcome address, the Centre Coordinator, Malam Abba Sabo, described the exhibition as the second of its kind organized by the department to promote practical learning among students.
He recalled that the maiden edition, held last year, focused on the traditional occupations of blacksmithing and barbing, adding that the initiative has continued to receive positive feedback from students and stakeholders.
Delivering a lecture at the event, the Guest Speaker and Head of the Hausa Department, Degree Programme, Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel, Dr. Isah Musa Abubakar, explained that Hausa Course 213 was designed to expose students to the significance of traditional Hausa occupations.
According to him, the course equips students with practical knowledge and entrepreneurial skills that can enable them to become self-reliant after graduation instead of depending solely on white-collar jobs.
Also speaking, the Deputy Director, Directorate of Continuing Education, Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel, Dr. Umar Aliyu, described the exhibition as highly beneficial, particularly for students offering Hausa Course 213.
He noted that combining classroom instruction with practical demonstrations enhances students’ understanding of the course and encouraged other NCE Sandwich Centres offering Hausa programmes to organize similar exhibitions.
Highlighting academic excellence during the programme, the Proprietor of Brighter International Academy, Jahun, Mr. Iyke, presented awards to outstanding students from the Arabic Department; Hafsat Suleiman Muhammad and Musbahu Muhammad as well as Maimuna Sabo Abubakar from the PES Department.
Mr. Iyke explained that the awards fulfilled a promise he made during the school’s fifth graduation ceremony held in February 2026. He urged students to remain committed to their studies in order to achieve academic success and improve their future.
The exhibition attracted several traditional title holders in the barbing profession, including Sarkin Aska Hassan Muhammad Koramawa, Sarkin Aska Adamu Hantsu, Sarkin Aska Abubakar Kokochi, Sarkin Aska Amadu Agufa, and Hakimin Wanzamai, Sabo Sarawiya.
Also in attendance were prominent members of the hunters’ association, including Isyaku Sarkin Jeji, Sankira Shu’aibu Kadoma, Head of Hunters Ubale Shugaba, and members of his team, all of whom displayed the rich cultural skills and occupational heritage passed down through generations.
