The Kano State Government has marked over 50 properties, including Azman University, as part of its crackdown on illegal structures across the state.
Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, Director General of Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS) and head of the enforcement committee, said the exercise targets buildings without proper ownership documents and those sited in restricted areas like under high-tension lines or on waterways.
Officials have been visiting locations to seal or mark non-compliant structures. At Azman University, some buildings, including a filling station and factories within the premises, were marked pending document verification.
Dr. Sani said the government is enforcing the law to ensure better urban planning, not targeting individuals. “No one is above the law, regardless of status or political affiliation,” he said, urging owners with genuine documents to present them to avoid penalties.
The KANGIS boss added that the move aims to address illegal structures and improve Kano’s infrastructure. While many residents welcomed it as a step toward organized development, others raised concerns about fair and transparent processes.
The enforcement is ongoing. Government urged property owners to regularize documents quickly to avoid strict action.
