The reconstruction of the collapsed Kubarachi Bridge has recorded progress, with the Kano State Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME), Nura Ma’aji conducting an extensive on-site assessment of the ongoing bridge reconstruction and the 15-kilometre Kura–Kubarachi–Madobi road upgrade project in Kura LGA.
The Kubarachi Bridge project, regarded as one of the most important rural infrastructure investments undertaken by the Kano State Government, involves the reconstruction of a previously collapsed bridge and the comprehensive upgrading of the surrounding road network to enhance connectivity and facilitate the movement of people, goods, and services across the area.
Findings from the inspection revealed that reconstruction works on the bridge, together with the grading and asphalting of the 15-kilometre Kura–Kubarachi–Madobi road, have reached 90 per cent completion.
Although the Commissioner did not meet the contractor on-site during the visit, the Director of Civil Infrastructure at the Ministry, Engr. Ibrahim Idris, informed the monitoring team that the construction company is expected to resume work shortly.
He explained that the remaining activities would focus on reinforcing the bridge embankments and completing other outstanding components of the project.
Beyond the Kubarachi Bridge and road project, Ma’aji’s inspection tour covered 25 additional ongoing projects across Kura and Bunkure LGA.
The visit forms part of the Ministry’s statutory responsibility to monitor government projects, ensure compliance with approved specifications, uphold quality standards, and verify adherence to project timelines.
Among the projects inspected were the general renovation of Kura General Hospital, the construction and renovation of Neighbourhood Security Watch divisional offices, rehabilitation of Shari’a Courts, construction of Gida-Gida classroom blocks, and dual carriageway road projects spanning five kilometres.
At each project site, the Commissioner assessed the level of work completed, examined the quality of materials and workmanship, and engaged project engineers and contractors on measures to ensure timely completion and value for public expenditure.
Speaking during the inspection, Comrade Ma’aji Sumaila reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to delivering durable, high-quality, and people-centred infrastructure projects across Kano State.
He emphasized that effective monitoring and evaluation remain critical to ensuring that public projects are executed according to specification and ultimately contribute to improved connectivity, economic growth, and better living standards for citizens.
