Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has congratulated Nigerians and Jigawa residents on the 2026 Democracy Day, describing June 12 as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots who fought for justice, freedom, and the right of citizens to choose their leaders.
In his Democracy Day message, Namadi said the day offers an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s democratic journey and the shared responsibility of leaders and citizens in strengthening institutions. He noted that June 12 symbolizes courage and the conviction that the will of the people must remain the foundation of governance. “Democracy is not merely about elections,” the Governor stated. “It is about building institutions that command public confidence, upholding the rule of law, protecting citizens’ rights, and ensuring government remains accountable to the people.” Namadi acknowledged that Nigeria’s democratic experience has faced challenges but said the country has made steady progress through dialogue, constitutional order, and the resilience of its people. He added that leadership carries a solemn duty to govern with humility, fairness, and commitment to the public good. On Jigawa, the Governor said his administration’s 12-Point Development Agenda is driving investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, economic development, and social protection. He said the focus over the past three years has been on expanding opportunities and ensuring public resources reflect citizens’ priorities. He also stressed that peace and stability remain Jigawa’s greatest assets, commending traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, and citizens for preserving harmony across the state. Namadi urged Nigerians to embrace tolerance, civic responsibility, and active participation in nation-building. The Governor reaffirmed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying cooperation among all levels of government is vital to tackling national challenges. He prayed for continued peace, unity, and prosperity for Jigawa and Nigeria, and thanked residents for their support, pledging that his administration will remain guided by accountability and service.
