The Chairman of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has called on individuals involved in drug abuse to repent, assuring them of government support for rehabilitation and economic empowerment.
Barr. Muhuyi gave the assurance on Sunday during a Peace Building Programme organized by the Dorayi Ciranci Youth Development Initiative in collaboration with the Kano State Police Command in Dorayi, Kano.
He said the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is committed to tackling drug abuse through both law enforcement and human-centered approaches. “We are opening the door for repentance.
Anyone who sincerely abandons drug abuse will be supported through rehabilitation and subsequently empowered to become self-reliant.
Our objective is not only to enforce the law but also to restore hope and dignity to those willing to change,” the Task Force Chairman stated.
However, Barr. Muhuyi issued a stern warning to dealers and property owners involved in the storage and sale of illicit drugs.
He said the state government would revoke the Certificate of Occupancy of any house or building found to be used for drug-related activities in line with existing laws.
He also declared that the Task Force would operate without fear or favour, and that political interference would no longer be tolerated. “The era of political interference is over.
We will not condone any attempt by politicians or influential persons to interfere with our operations or secure the release of suspects arrested in connection with drug-related offences. The law will take its full course against anyone found wanting,” he warned.
The chairman explained that the Task Force’s mandate includes intelligence-driven operations, public enlightenment, rehabilitation programmes, and collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders.
He commended the organizers of the peace building programme for promoting youth development and community engagement, describing such efforts as key to addressing the root causes of drug abuse and violence.
Barr. Muhuyi urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations and residents to support the Task Force by providing credible information to help achieve a safer and drug-free Kano.
He was accompanied to the event by the Commandant of the Task Force and Officer Commanding Anti-Daba Unit, Kano State Police Command, CSP Bashir Gwadabe.
