The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has begun paying out N1,389,857,763.37 in terminal and death benefits to 560 beneficiaries.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, announced this during an engagement with beneficiaries at the Pension House in Dutse.According to Dr. Aminu, the funds cover gratuity, death benefits, and outstanding pension balances.
The beneficiaries include employees of the state civil service, local government councils, and SUBEB who retired voluntarily, reached retirement age, or passed away while in service.
He gave a breakdown: N1,101,443,426.68 will go to 453 retirees, while N261,855,040.41 is for 90 families of deceased civil servants.
He further noted that 17 pensioners who died before clocking five years in retirement had their next-of-kin paid a total of N26,559,296.28.
Dr. Aminu said the board is current with both lump-sum entitlements and monthly pension payments to all retirees in the state, including those who died in service.
He credited the development to the state government’s commitment to retirees’ welfare and financial stability.
The Executive Secretary also thanked Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi for his “consistent support and reform-driven leadership” since taking office.
In his remarks, the State Accountant General, Alhaji Abdullahi S.G. Shehu, said the Namadi administration has injected more than N9 billion into the pension scheme since 2023 as a bailout fund. He said the intervention has strengthened the scheme and boosted confidence among workers nearing retirement.
Also at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Contributory Pension, Hon. Idris Aminu, described Jigawa’s pension scheme as one of the best in Nigeria for its prompt settlement of retirees and families of deceased staff.
Some of the beneficiaries commended the government for the timely payment, saying it will help them settle obligations and live comfortably after service.The payment exercise is part of the government’s continued efforts to recognize and reward the contributions of civil servants.
