Former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, has died at 69.
Katagum, who served as deputy governor from 2018 to 2019 under ex-Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, passed away in the early hours of Saturday.
The announcement was made by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, media aide to former Governor M.A. Abubakar. In a statement, Lukman said: “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. We announce with deep sorrow the death of Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, Wazirin Katagum and ex-Deputy Governor of Bauchi State. He died today after years of committed service to his community, Bauchi State and Nigeria.”
Funeral details will be announced later, Lukman added. “May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends and associates strength to bear this loss. Ameen.”
Before becoming deputy governor, Katagum was Chief of Staff at Bauchi Government House. He also held the traditional title of Wazirin Katagum.
He was the son of late elder statesman Alhaji Sule Katagum, Nigeria’s first Federal Public Service Commission chairman and former Wazirin Katagum.
The late politician leaves behind his wife, children and other relatives. His death has been described as a major loss to Katagum Emirate and Bauchi State, where he was highly regarded for public service and community development.
