Taura Local Government Council in Jigawa State has constituted an 18-member committee to coordinate efforts aimed at curbing the activities of encroachers and criminal elements, and to protect agricultural communities across the area.
The Executive Chairman of Taura Local Government, Dr. Shu’aibu Hambali, Turakin Taura, announced the committee after a stakeholders’ security meeting convened to review the security situation and strengthen peace-building measures.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Hambali emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence between farmers and Fulani herders. He urged both groups to avoid actions that could trigger conflict or undermine the relative peace enjoyed in the local government.
He explained that the committee will be chaired by the Executive Chairman, while the Head of the Agriculture Department of the council will serve as Secretary.
Members of the committee include the District Heads of Taura, Majiya and Gujungu, heads of all security agencies operating in the local government, and a representative of the Jigawa State Ministry of Agriculture in charge of Ringim and Taura LGAs.
According to the Chairman, the committee is expected to work closely with community leaders and other stakeholders to promote harmony, safeguard farming activities, and enhance overall security in Taura.
Dr. Hambali expressed confidence that the initiative would help address emerging security challenges and ensure the protection of lives and property.
The council reiterated its commitment to supporting agricultural production and maintaining peace across all communities in the local government.
