Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to sustain peace and security across the state.
The Governor made the pledge while receiving the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Supervising North West and in charge of Administration and Finance, DIG Suleiman Muhammad Abdul, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for fulfilling his promise to send a high-level delegation to assess the security situation in Kebbi State and identify areas requiring further intervention.
The Governor commended the Commissioner of Police and officers serving in the state for their dedication, professionalism, and prompt response whenever called upon to protect lives and property.
He noted that Kebbi State shares international borders with the Republic of Niger and the Republic of Benin, a situation that has contributed to the infiltration of bandits and Lakurawa elements into some border communities.
According to him, the state does not harbour bandit camps, rather criminal elements often cross into Kebbi from neighbouring territories to launch attacks before retreating to their bases.
Governor Idris expressed confidence that the findings and recommendations from the DIG’s assessment would help strengthen security measures and enhance the safety of residents across the state.
Earlier, DIG Suleiman Muhammad Abdul said he was in Kebbi State on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to convey the Force’s appreciation to Governor Idris for his immense support to the Nigeria Police Force.
He particularly commended the Governor for providing operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), describing the gesture as a significant boost to police operations and security management in the state.
He said the Inspector-General sincerely appreciated the Governor’s contributions and disclosed that the visit also provided an opportunity to condole with the Government and people of Kebbi State over the loss of lives resulting from banditry attacks, including fallen security personnel.
