Over Rice Distribution to StaffA private legal practitioner and human rights advocate, Barrister Musa Abubakar Tudunwada, has disclosed plans to formally write to the Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, seeking clarification regarding the distribution of bags of rice donated by the Kano State Government to personnel of the board.
The rice was reportedly provided by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as part of the Ramadan welfare support usually extended to ministries, departments and agencies of the state government.
Barrister Tudunwada stated that his decision to seek clarification followed complaints allegedly received from some personnel of the Hisbah Board, who claimed that the distribution process was not conducted fairly and that certain staff members were denied their entitlements.
“We will formally write to Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa to request a comprehensive explanation of how the rice provided by the Kano State Government was distributed among staff of the Hisbah Board,” Barrister Tudunwada said.
He explained that the objective of the letter is to obtain an official account of the distribution process and determine whether any irregularities occurred during the exercise.
Barrister Tudunwada further warned that failure by the leadership of the board to provide satisfactory clarification could lead to further legal action.
“If our request is not addressed or the board fails to provide a transparent explanation of the distribution process, we will have no option but to submit a formal petition to the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission in order to seek justice for the affected staff members,” he added.
He also stressed that allegations of unfairness or lack of transparency should not arise within an institution entrusted with the responsibility of promoting moral discipline, justice and accountability in society.
Meanwhile, a source disclosed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reportedly allocated 900 bags of rice to the Kano State Hisbah Board for distribution to its personnel as part of the Ramadan support initiative.
According to the source, the Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Chairman of the board and the Deputy Directors-General allegedly received 20 bags each, while Assistant Directors-General reportedly received 18 bags each.
The source further claimed that Directors and Assistant Commanders received one bag each, while units within the board’s headquarters were allocated one bag per unit. Additionally, each local government headquarters of the Hisbah Board was reportedly allocated five bags.Barrister Tudunwada maintained that seeking clarification from the leadership of the board has become necessary in order to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability in the distribution of government welfare support.It will be recalled that the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently distributed food items to ministries, government agencies and members of the public as part of its Ramadan support programme
