Following the nationwide cost of agricultural inputs, which discouraged many farmers and led to the suspension of rice and maize farming due to expensive fertilizers.
Governor Umar Namadi has introduced a 45–50% subsidy on fertilizer per bag with trucks distributing the Fertilizers across the 27 local government areas.
Kirikasamma Local Government council received 1,200 bags of fertilizer which will be sold to farmers at the subsidized rate.
The Head of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Sabi’u Kani, announced that NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer solar Brand company would be sold at ₦28,800 per bag.
During the flag-off of the fertilizer sales across Kirikasamma’s 10 wards, the Council Chairman, Muhammad Maji Wakili Marma, stated that Governor Namadi’s intervention aimed to alleviate the hardship caused by high fertilizer prices in the market.
Marma added that “the distribution would be managed by ward-level committees, headed by each ward’s councilor and other members. “
In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Kabila Suga, praised the council chairman and Governor Umar Namadi for the subsidy, noting that it would enable farmers to maximize profits during the upcoming bumper harvest.
Kabila stated that , price of Npk in the market is 50-56,000 per bag which is difficult for the small scale farmers to purchase .
