Babura LGA Hosts Border Synchronization Planning Meeting …

Babura Local Government Area hosted a high-level border synchronization planning meeting involving stakeholders from Jigawa, Kano, and Katsina States in preparation for the upcoming round of polio immunization scheduled for 14th June 2025.

Declaring the meeting open, the Chairman of Babura Local Government, Honourable Hamisu Muhammad Garu, commended the dedication and commitment of health workers in delivering quality healthcare services. He reaffirmed his council’s commitment to supporting immunization campaigns and other public health initiatives aimed at preventing the spread of communicable diseases, especially among children.

Honourable Garu urged participants to engage in productive deliberations and develop a unified strategy to ensure the successful implementation of the forthcoming polio immunization exercise across border communities.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sabiu Ali, the WHO Assistant Public Health Officer in charge of the Babura, Suletankarkar, and Yankwashi cluster, highlighted the objectives of the meeting. He explained that the session aimed to review outcomes from the previous immunization round, assess preparedness, and agree on joint action points to ensure synchronized efforts across border settlements for comprehensive coverage.

Also addressing the gathering, the District Head of Babura, Sarkin Bai Ringim Alhaji Muhammad Nata’ala Mustapha, emphasized the importance of inter-LGA collaboration. He called on health workers in neighboring communities to create channels for information sharing, which is vital for early detection and reporting of suspected disease outbreaks.

Participating local governments included Dutsi, Kankiya, Baure, and Zango from Katsina State; Tsanyawa, Kunchi, Danbatta, and Makoda from Kano State; as well as Yankwashi, Babura, Kazaure, Roni, and Gwiwa from Jigawa State.
Representatives from WHO, including the Border Consultant from Kastina state where also in attendance.
