The Jigawa State Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic motor vehicle accident that occurred today, Saturday at in Kyarama village, Ringim Local Government Area (LGA), Jigawa State.
According to Jigawa state police public relations officer DSP Shiisu kasan adam Said; Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident involved two golf 3 saloon vehicles with rregistration number; Kaduna MKA 687 AY driven by Adamu Sunusi 35 years of Hadejia LGA coming from Abuja heading to Gujungu town and golf 3 with registration number KWL 606 KA driven by Bashari Danjummai 30 years of Sauna Area, Nassarawa LGA Kano state coming from Hadejia heading for Kano respectively.
On reaching Kyarama village, the vehicles had a head on collision, as a result, they fell off the road. The crash claimed the lives of nine (9) people, while several others were injured to varying degrees.
Upon receipt of the report, Motor Traffic Department (MTD) personnel arrived on the scene to provide assistance. The injured victims were rushed to Ringim General Hospital, where nine passengers, including the two drivers, were pronounced dead by the on-call doctor. A post mortem examination was conducted and corpses were released to their relatives for burial. Eleven passengers are on admission and responding to treatment.
Efforts are currently underway to identify all victims and notify their families.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP AT Abdullahi, psc, expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. He also urges drivers to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations, avoid overspeeding, and ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles to prevent such tragic incidents.
