Primary school teachers in some area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) reportedly collapsed last week after receiving their January salary without the expected minimum wage of N70,000. The teachers, who had incurred debts and hoped to pay them off with the new wage, were left disappointed and disillusioned.

According to sources, all primary school teachers across the six area councils received the old salary amount for January 2025, despite promises from their council chairmen to implement the new minimum wage. Two teachers in Bwari LEA Primary School reportedly collapsed on Thursday after receiving the alert for their January salary without the minimum wage reflection.

Similar incidents were reported in Abaji and Kwali area councils, where some primary school teachers allegedly collapsed due to the non-payment of the new minimum wage. A relation of one of the teachers in Kwali reported that four teachers went into coma after receiving old alerts without the reflection of the new wage.
